Gatwick to central London

We are going to London for a few days, myself, dh and 3 dc. Managed to get great cheap flights from Dublin, but now I find that getting into London on the Gatwick Express, will cost more than the flights

Has anyone used alternatives? Thanks!

Just get the ordinary train - it is on the same line and costs much less than the Gatwick Express.

Really? Thanks for that!

Any views on bus/coach? Would it take ages?

The regualr slower trains (stop at east Coryodon and Clapham Junction) use same line, take about 5-10 minutes longer and cost less(from £8.90 according to National Rail). Buy a Family and Friends railcard(on offer atm) and kids cost £1 each. Or use National Express coaches.

I used to go that way a lot. They will always try to sell you a Gatwick Express ticket first so make sure you specify you want the ordinary one. I used to get a ticket for one stop down the line sometimes just to avoid the aggro.

NO to coach. Hideous journey. I second what georgiemum says.

I think the train is £7... will need to check. The bus will take yonks.

that only applies going back the other way from london to gatwick of course...( Three Bridges)

Great, ordinary train it is!

Thanks everyone
