From what I can tell and my knowledge of the area yes you would need a car or be prepared to pay alot in taxi fares.

No actual knowledge of The Valley accomadation but looks really nice!

Thanks. I thought it looked nice, but just wondered if anyone had first hand experience. Think we will take our car, If I can persuade DH to book it!!

Oooh - we've just been looking at this as well. It looks great (but would definitely need a car I think)

I am a bit suspicious of the "anon" review which reads a bit like a brochure . Though it does look really nice. Would love to hear from someone who has stayed there.

Onadietcokebreak - from your knowledge of the area, how long would it take to get to a decent beach?

I don't know this place but have seen it in Hoseasons brochure. If you want to be in luxury accommodation near a beach you could look at Gwel an Mor in Portreath (also in hoseasons)...lovely accommodation and near beach and a couple of miles from A30 (means you can easily drive to lots of places - truro, St michael's mount, National trust beaches etc).

Hi - stayed at Carnon Downs a couple of years ago. Overall the complex and accommodation was lovely. It was all lovely and clean and lovely decor inside the cottages. I would definately stay there again one day.

The downsides were the restaurant was a bit to "a la carte" and small - although you could order the food to be delivered to the cottage which we did one night as took DS1 when he was just a baby. The other thing which sticks in my mind stupidly was that the plates were too big to go in the dishwasher!

In terms of needing a car I would say yes but if you have a car you are quite central to all the tourist attractions ie. Eden Project, St Mawes etc. HTH

Had a look at Gwel an Mor and it looks really lovely. The only thing they didn't mention was whether you could get restaurant food delivered to your lodge, as you can at Carnon Downs. That's what really appeals as I don't want to cook, but we will have a baby and a toddler with us.

On the same theme, Mags, did it work well getting your meal delivered?

Niggle - have a look here as well. They will deliver food and the reviews on here are good.

To be honest it was a while ago so don't remember much other than we had food delivered a couple of times. We went with my mum and dad so didnt have the problem of taking little ones out to eat. Vaguely recall the food was nice but quite expensive.

nigglewiggle - There is a restaurant on site at Gwel and Mor. It was adequate but nothing special so we only ate there once.

If we were to return there I would do a combination of the following:

• order from "cookfood" - they do high quality chef prepared frozen meals which you can heat up in a holiday cottage..I think they would deliver if you order £50 worth.

• buy anything else from the local M & S food dept (it is a few miles away at the A30 Hayle roundabout)

• drop by Trevaskis farm - a few miles away - I think they do meals in their shop you could heat up in a cottage and they also have an amazing restaurant you could try for lunch one day. They have the most amazing selection of "puddings". They have a website if you google.

The accommodation at gwel an mor is excellent -we stayed in 3 bed lodge with hot tub. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with was the sea view..it was slightly more distant than expected.
