We're going to be in Edinburgh from 28th-2nd January this year.

Any ideas what we can do with a 1 year old and a 3 year old every day?

Thoughts much appreciated.

The zoo is lovely though expensive and the botanic gardens are great for a run around - and free!

should help as lists all the places you could take them

I would imagine your 3yr old would love deep sea world at north queensferry but I don't know if you have a car etc

dizzyjingles · 09/12/2008 22:03

the zoo is in a steep hill though so be warned to burn the calf muscles if pushing a double of carrying in sling etc

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 09/12/2008 22:09

you don't have to go right to the top though (of the zoo hill) - loads of the cool animals are lower down

dizzyjingles · 09/12/2008 22:10

this is very true Northern, we just decided it would be more fun to get to the top and end up needing oxygen!!

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 09/12/2008 22:15

There is a good view from the top but we usually turn round at the big cats now When dd3 is out of the pushchair I expect we'll venture to see the zebras etc again.

dizzyjingles · 09/12/2008 22:16

am embarassed to admit that was when we only had DD1 and I was pregnant with DD2

shall also wait till DD3 up and running before we venture that far too - tis just a shame Zebras are my favourite

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 09/12/2008 22:27

Oh come on you're beinmg too hard on yourself- it's a big hill and you made it up there pregnant!!! Give the girl a medal

We saw the zebras once when they had a baby - cutest, cutest thing!

Edinburgh zoo

Museum of Scotland (Chambers St) is being refurbished but the interactive section is still open.

Soft plays at the commonwealth pool, ocean terminal, Time Twisters in Sighthill.

Good play parks in Princes St gardens (west end), the Meadows, Inverlieth Park.

Vogrie Country Park just outside Edinburgh has a very large outdoor play park, nice cafe with a small soft play and acres of buggy-friendly woodland walks.

The Butterfly farm is a good venue for a cold day as it's tropical temperatures inside . There's also a reptile house and they do animal handling. The next door garden centre has a small play park and a large aquarium section which my kids love and also a good cafe.

East Links Family Park near Dunbar is a great day out.

You can feed the ducks on the loch half way up Arthur's Seat, there's a car park next to it.

If you fancy a bracing walk get the train to North Berwick. Lovely beach fish and chips and the seabird centre is good.
