Devastated - how can they do this to me?

Well quite easily actually

I was hoping to use my aunt & uncle cottage for a few days at Christmas but they have decided to sped the whole if the Christmas/New Year break there themselves

So while I am devastated they are perfectly right to make that decision....I just don't have to like it

Can I go anywhere with £300 Tescos vouchers at Christmas?

What's wrong with spending xmas at home? Or can you join them?? If you go away, how will Santa know where to leave your presents?

We have previously spent Christmas at home then gone abroad

Last year we were a bit broke so we spent it at the cottage

This year we are completely broke

Could you go to your Aunt & Uncles house instead?

Could you not just stay at home?

I think a house swap is your best bet. Everything will be very expensive at that time of year. If you are not fussy about where you go, a house swap would work well.

We could stay at home - but I work from home & from experience I will end up working (paperwork etc)

I like a complete break at Christmas so I can switch off - it isn't really possible at home

I only get 2 weeks holiday a year - the rest of the time it id hard to even get a day off so I really appreciate the break at Christmas

I guess I start cottage hunting to see if I can get anything cheap

Oh sorry, you didn't say in your original post that it was your only holiday in the year.

At this time in the year you might be better leaving it until very near the time when they start reducing things. This year I would imagine a lot of people will take the decision not to rent a cottage over christmas and save the money instead.

Could you not invite yourself to the cottage?

I have a week at Christmas & a week in August

But for some reason we look forward to/expect more from our Christmas one

What kind of job gives you only 2 weeks holiday?? Oh wait a minute .. I'm a SAHM and I don't get ANY holiday (and no pay or possibility of promotion )

I'm a SAHM and according to my dh I'm always on holiday

where do you want to go/travel too?

I childmind & I don't earn much, no promotion either

But I do like it

I don't care where I go as long as I don't have to stay here tbh - I would end up doing bloody paperwork (like I am now)
