want to go for 2 or 3 max nights mid week just before bank hol in aug, prev been and stayed in 2 nice bed and breakfasts but like to stay in new places. they were nice but not the kind you go back to every year.

we have paid £50 and £55 a night prev per room for double bed and breakfast.

we have a budget of £125-£150 for 2 nights dont mind apartment, bed and breakfast or hotel.

anyone recommend anywhere as close to city centre as poss.

My family have stayed in the Railway Lodge B&B with no complaints. It's a mile or so to the city centre.

thanks for that think ive found an apartment now usually £100 a night but lady is doing me a deal for £65 a night as i work for nhs. she is onyl doing deal if i dont have the breakfast hamper of milk, cereal, jam and butter of course i agreed would rather take my own bacon, eggs etc

the apartment fell through as they got a booking for one of the nights.

so have now booked the menzies gold club hotel that has nice lesuire facilities for £65 a night double bed and breakfast with 1st nights dinner included.

thought we go first day spend day chilling and have dinner at hotel, then spend 2nd day in cambridge city centre, come back get changed then spend eve out in cambridge.

the hotel is 5miles from city centre but has a bus stop few mins away that has a bus every 20mins into cambridge.

parking is free at the hotel and found most of the city hotels charge for parking some upto £15 a night!!!

this has cst us £130 total and should have been £250 plus cost of dinner so pleased with bargain got is as we changed from thus/fri to wed/thurs which is less busy for them and not any bother for us.

I heart Cambridge.

cant believe how much cambridge costs, ok i can as been there twice before. 1st time we went hadnt booked anyway, i was 19 and husband (then boyfriend) was 25 and we knocked on a few bed and breakfast doors told full up as some gala weekend - then husband goes into hilton in his shorts and t-shirt he asked for room rate and they said £175 for one night he laughed an walked out!!! we ended up going to tourist info and they found us b and b 3miles out of city for £70 a night.

2nd time lesson learnt and booked tenison towers near station was very nice bed and breakfast but not the place you go to twice if that makes sense.

husband went to uni there and we too love going there as no too far from home in leicester but far enough.

If you want character and are feeling hardy, college guest rooms can be kinda fun and you don't get any more central. There's a link on that thread to a booking site for them.

Gizmo i dont actually have any children found this site when looking up something for a friend with twins and I also do some night nanny work (as well as work full time as community childrens nurse) so its a well earned rest.

college guests rooms were quite pricey in comparison to some rather nice hotels. I thought they would be cheaper but not it seems.

College guest rooms seem to be a lot more expensive than they used to be! I wanna go to Cambridge, I lived there in my youth, worked there, got married there....

going to stay at the menzies hotel 5miles from city centre and then use bus to go into city. the hotel has a great looking pool and golf course so will spend first day there (check in from 2pm), chilling out, then 2nd day will spend in cambridge.
