WHITBY - know it? What do you recommend we do with 2 little ones.

There seem to be hundreds of good places around about it... any recommendations for what not to miss?

whitby, i dont personally think is good for little ones, its got some arcades and nic nac shops along main strip near harbour but the rest is normal/local produce shops.
I prefer scarborough and we park near sea life centre and do more of that side first then hit a few amusements, or even robin hoods bay is nice and the LO's can have a paddle and picnic

what do you do in scarborough - have you been to peasholm park or redcliffe farm? do you rate either?

fab fossil hunting around that area (there are even better places that are not suitable for little ones) and the local museum offers guided fossil hunting museum

Peasholme park is lovely.

The Sea Life Centre at Scarborough is good, obviously there is the beach, with all the tat shops on the front like you get in any seaside town.

Bridlington has a nice fair on the front - not too expensive.

Whitby itself has donkeys on the beach, and sometimes a bouncy castle, there is a bit of a fair area, but tbh it's not great for littlies.

Filey is nice if your kids are still in a pushchair - it's too hilly for just walking children but again, the beach is okay and there are some nice things to do on the front - crazy golf and stuff.

Out of the four, Scarborough has the best shopping centre.

Robin Hood's Bay is gorgeous and well worth a visit if you are in the area, but a day trip is probably all you need.

Also Cayton Bay is spectacular so you must go and have a look there.

Scarborough has a nice little sort of theme park across the road from Peasholme Park which I've never actually been to, but I believe it is good for the kids.

If you have a spare few minutes, it's worth ringing around some of the holiday parks and seeing if they allow you in to use their facilities if you aren't staying there - some of them have fantastic things for the kids to play on.

Scarborough has my vote. ( biased as I grew up there)
it is great for young children.
the beach offers so much, sand castles on the wide expanse of sand or rock pooling a bit further down beyond the Spa.
The sea life center for rainy day easy day trip to Whitby if you are eager.

just wanted to add that if you want another day out the john bull rock factory does tours and lets you make your own rock at the end.
You could also visit candy kingdom the soft play center when you have finished

peasolme park is really lovely on a dry day..there is also (if its open again after refurb?) mr marvels/kindergarden play area opposite(near were 'the sands' development is)..also i do like scarborough beach, we went in april and it was lovely, dd had donkey rides (£2) and it has a smaller area of tea cups/trampolines/train rides etc right on beach, but also about £2 per ride!) ..Fish pan do THE BEST fish and chips and the ice cream palour right opposite the life boat hanger is beautiful, esp the banana icecream..there is bowling in the very last arcade upstairs as well as bar and lovely outside/upstairs seating area and you can see the whole of the front as long as its nice and not raining!..the walk up to top near ruins of castle is good, but exhausting esp if your going to ahve a buggy-then id avoid like plague!

although there is a lift thing that goes up from the front so you don't have to walk all the way up from the beach to the castle.

Whitby is lovely, so is Robin Hoods Bay, find Scarborough too busy and tourist trappy. If your DC are like mine and just want to run around, soak everything and eat sand then its great. And you're near the North York Moors so a steam train ride could make a nice change.
