Falmouth

I am thinking of booking a cottage nr Falmouth. Does anyone know if the beaches are sandy? Are there things to do and see with a 9 yr old boy? Any info would be great - other alternative is Newquay.

I'm your woman! We've been holidaying in Falmouth since DS was born, 7 years ago.

Yes, Gyllingvase (sp?) beach is sandy, as is Maenporth (my favourite). Swanpool is shingle/stoney but popular anyway.

We stay at the Maenporth Estate - just up the hill from the beach, with an indoor swimming pool.

I think there's loads to do - my eldest is 7 - we are happy just going to the beach, taking boat trips (nice place for lunch at St Mawes). Lots of places around to visit (gardens, kiddy-places) and Newquay's only 40 mins -ish, with the aquarium and a whole host of stuff nearby.

Personally I MUCH prefer Falmouth to Newquay - bit less touristy.

Anything else, just ask!

9 yo would probably enjoy Pendennis Castle.

Our kids love exploring the paths at Trebah Garden which is nearby (and has its own beach). Don't know if 9 yo's are still into things like that!

Pendra Loweth looks lovely - we had a quick look last time we were there. You'll only be a 5-min drive from Maenporth beach (parking is about £2). Have a good time and yes, bring on the sunshine!
