Next week we have 3 days in Liverpool (arrive Weds afternoon and leave late Friday afternoon). We're staying at the Leonardo Hotel, which is next to the docks, so I believe it's pretty central.

I was hoping to go on a river cruise, but due to a technical issue, all ferries are currently suspended (and have been for the last 12 days).

We're all 60ish, but in good health and fit, so walking around isn't an issue. Any suggestions for places to go and places to eat/drink would be very much appreciated.

TIA.

We did a bus tour which was brilliant, but because the guide was so informative and funny, so guess it depends on the guide. Just wandering around the town, into the museum near the docks, the 2 cathedrals, all quite interesting. As much Beatles stuff as you cojld wish for!

There’s a good music museum by the Liver building (sorry, I can’t remember the name of it). A walk around Albert Dock is nice, several coffee shops etc, the shopping area is good, all pedestrianised but last time I e we were there, there were groups of homeless people outside Primark but they weren’t bothersome to passers by. So many places to eat & drink and the people watching is great

Lunyalita Spanish (Catalan) restaurant near your hotel is very nice!

bababamama · 22/10/2026 16:55

The magical mystery bus tour (yellow ones) and we got a coupon for a drink at the cavern club. I’d book the cavern club beatles if they are playing as it was fun. The city museum is good, western approaches (war) museum was very interesting. We ran out of time!

The Williamson tunnels are fascinating. Seem to be tours on Fridays which might work for you.

Thank you! Some great suggestions here. If we can't do a river tour, then a bus tour sounds like a good alternative.

The City Bus Tour starts from a. Stop right opposite your hotel. Your ticket is valid for 24 hours so it’s well worth it as you can hop on and hop off whenever you want.

The River Of Light Festival is on next week so the City Centre will be packed in the coming. Book any restaurants you would like asap! Close to your hotel, I would recommend Lunyalita, Maray and Pasta Cosa.

tinderboxofaheart · 22/10/2026 17:49

Castle Street is good for eating places and much nearer your hotel than Bold Street (another busy restaurant area that may be suggested).

2 cathedrals & Georgian Quarter.
If you're interested in The Beatles, go out of town to Penny Lane, plus John and Paul's houses (National Trust) - get a black cab to take you.
Museum of Liverpool, by the Pier Head.
Western Approaches, wartime HQ.
Walker Art Gallery & St George's Hall (near Lime St Station - get a bus or cab up from the river).

Eat at The Quarter (near Anglican Cathedral).
Salthouse Bacaro, Castle Street

You can tour the Liver Building which is fab! I think currently you may also be to tour the Cunard Building (one if the other 3 Graces). The British Music Experience is in the Cunard Building and is excellent. The River of Light is free and will be very busy, but is always nice for an evening walk. Western Approaches (Ww2 museum) is great. You could always get a train "over the water" to Hamilton Square in Birkenhead, then walk to Woodside Ferry terminal (about 5 mins). Even though the ferry isn't running at the moment, and the terminal is having work done, its the best way to get photos of the fantastic skyline! Also Liberty Bell coffee, near the station, has a great reputation

The Beatles Experience and the Beatles bus tour / the bus tour is brilliant. A trip to the Empire theatre. For the best Italian meal go to Villa Romana - booking probably needed.

The Sky Bar in Old Hall street has fantastic views of Liverpool and beyond. They do really interesting drinks and some food. Would recommend going in the day to see everything. I saw John Barnes in there the other week!
I think you can also tour and climb the Anglican cathedral.
You could also nip over on the Merseyrail to Port Sunlight.
It does get really busy with the river of Light festival.

We did a great ghost walk which went from outside of The Philharmonic pub.

do the liver building tour - fascinating building and wonderful views from the top.

This tour is fascinating, definitely do
Liverpool is a beautiful city, there is so much to see and just the whole atmosphere (no guessing where I’m from)
if you fancy a trip out the sea statues in Crosby are interesting

suki1964 · 22/10/2026 22:05

Seriously , you will not be bored with Liverpool, so much to see and do
The museums are fab, and the last time we were there because of an injury and walking wasnt so much of an option, we did the Beetles Bus tour - very entertaining - and had another days hop on hop off included

We go a couple of times a year for the past 6-8 years, and still find something new each time

SwedishEdith · 22/10/2026 22:13

Have a drink here and you can also do a tour.

I think you can visit the Port of Liverpool Building as well. Supposedly beautiful inside.

Look up the floating grace. It's a canal boat/dinner cruise through the docks. There is also the splash bus that's part bus tour part boat tour. You are right on the docks so a walk around the Albert dock and along the river to the liver buildings is nice. Do this in the daytime as the river of light will mean it's very busy once it gets dark.

The cathedrals area and hope street are worth a visit, some lovely pubs along there. Definitely pop into the philharmonic pub for a drink, it's very ornate. Liverpool is full of lovely restaurants. If you give me an idea of what type of food you like I can recommend some. Make sure you book asap if eating near the docks

OffTheMap · 22/10/2026 22:59

A walk along Hope St is a must with a drink at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms (you will
love it!) the brilliant photo opportunity luggage’ sculpture. And the Cathedral (Catholic) is not to be missed , go inside - I was mesmerised.

Vegetablespringrolls · 22/10/2026 23:27

My eldest is at uni in Liverpool. We like both the beatles museums. We usually go to cosmo to eat. Quirky quarter is nice too. Hoping to go to eureka next week but that's probably for for kids.

babyblack · 22/10/2026 23:27

The Oracle- it’s a cocktail bar on seel street where magicians come round the tables. You’ll queue outside to get in but if there’s only 1-2 groups ahead of you it’s well worth it

babyblack · 22/10/2026 23:29

Gino de campo sky bar is also nice - you can book a table for drinks.

HeWontEatWoodlice · Yesterday 09:29

Wheel of Liverpool along the waterfront if you want a good view (not cheap but I expect memorable).
Albert Dock, good restaurants but probably need to book early. Top of Bold Street is full of world cuisine restaurants, really good. There's also one that does scouse.
Maritime Museum.
Bus tours.
St George's Hall, part of it free to enter and part bookable.
Probably the best Waterstones in the country.

I second that! See both cathedrals. The Metropolitan is stunning. I enjoyed the western approaches museum interesting. If you are into history. Or the old dock tours.

BIWI · Yesterday 11:05

Clearly we're not going to be in Liverpool long enough! Thank you, everyone, for some fantastic suggestions.
