Where to go for a NY break?

Looking for suggestions of places to visit for a couple of nights over New Year - hoping for countryside for walks and a nice pub or 2.

We're in the Midlands, prob wouldn't want to travel much more than a couple of hours.

Any nice location recommendations?

The Angel Inn in Hetton, Yorkshire. Not sure what they do on NYE itself but I have been on a few in-between-Christmas-and NY breaks there and it was just perfect.

Actually scrub that. I just looked at their website to see what they offer for NYE and the prices are eyewatering. I do really like it there and maybe as I live overseas now I am a bit out of touch with prices in the UK but I genuinely don’t think it’s worth that.

Ludlow is lovely.

Hay-on-Wye, mooch around the bookshops, lovely walks and the pubs used to do mulled wine on draught
