@Kleptronic This used to be the case about Manchester. It doesn't rain anything like as much as it used to. Though there was a period a few years ago where rained more or less every day for 9 months, but that was a freak one!

The Lake District in UK
The West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand

I agree with Kerry. Due to family connections we went there on holiday a lot, including in the summer, and there wasn't a single day when it didn't rain.

On the plus side, it never got really cold.

Disneyland in California. It rained solidly for the 2 days we were there. We had paid a fortune, couldn’t change the dates, and there was virtually no shelter.
The money in my purse, which was inside my bag, and underneath my ‘waterproof’ was soaked through.

Falmouth. I’ve been three times now and it just poured down every single time. I’m sure it’s lovely though.

Yep Kerry too. Killarney. Never been when it's dry. And Ive been on a good few hens there. It always seems misty around the mountains.

Another vote for Dartmoor. Have a friend who lives there and Every . Single. Visit. It rains constantly and heavily. She is very defensive about it and says it’s Never like this! Am visiting her again soon so we’ll see.

Wet Sleddale. (It really is called that). It was vilely wet, my late brother in law who didn't think his brother should marry me and his atrocious troll of a wife took us there I suppose to either drown me or put me off. It didn't work, we're still married and he met a sticky end. No idea what happened to her.

The West of Ireland (Mayo to be precise). Dh’s family is from there. My MIL used to say she didn’t know why people said the weather there was poor - she told me it was lovely. When I went there with her I could see why. Whenever the rain stopped for 20 seconds, and there was a tiny glimpse of blue sky, she’d say. “Oh, this weather is wonderful, so lovely…”. And then it rained again!

I will say, we went back there this summer, and the weather was actually nice. First time I’ve ever seen Mayo in the sun, and I’ve been with DH for 29 years.

I actually got sunburnt in Killarney this summer. We were in Kerry for a week, and it was sunny every day.

Both Darwin in Australia and Singapore in the Monsoon season.
Lived in Singapore and got used to it and lived around the season. Darwin we were there for Christmas and we didnt have one dry day.

I grew up in Greater Manchester. It is genuinely a lot colder, wetter and greyer than Kent.

I know, when we were in Connemara a local radio station DJ was going on about what a glorious weather we were having. It was pretty cold and cloudy, with sunny intervals!

Had many holidays in wales where it’s just poured it down with rain every day which is pretty miserable. Other than that it’s Guilin, China for me. The humidity was really quite something, the climate was just so different to what we have in the UK. We didn’t have a bit of dry weather whilst we were there and I think it’s like that for a fair bit of the year.

forceofhabitandnotneed · 14/10/2026 07:09

Glastonbury (the festival) - particularly 1998 and 2016.

Phineyj · 14/10/2026 08:08

The Ardennes.

My dad: "there's a reason they're so green and those lakes don't just fill themselves!"
