Hoping to visit the National Archives at Kew and will probably stay around Knightsbridge/ Kensington area for 2 nights.
Any advice re transport and also
wondering would staying near Kew at a Premier Inn or such like be better ?

Far better to stay in Richmond. Kew is only a mile or so down the way and there’s plenty to see and do in lovely Richmond.

I've done plenty of research there over the last two decades. I've stayed near King's Cross so that I could also go to the BL. I've also stayed at AirBnBs in Kew itself which is very pretty (and cheaper than Kensington). Just a heads up that Kew is shut on Mondays but is open on Saturdays instead. On one visit from the States I asked them to bulk order their material in advance and they gave me access to 20 files in a single day so I could work quicker.

@Banjas Transport? The tube? Piccadilly line from Knightsbridge and change at Hammersmith for the District Line to Richmond. Or the District Line from South Kensington or High Street Kensington (might need to change at Earl's Court on the High St Ken line). It's a quick walk from the station.

Stayed in Chiswick last weekend at a Travelodge. Great location 😊

Visited Kew Gardens 😊

It’s a pita to get to Kew. But look at the tube connections. Wear good walking shoes!

It's very easy to get to Kew from Kensington but easier from South Ken than High Street Ken. If you plan to spend most of your time in Kew, I'd probably stay a bit closer eg in Richmond - would be cheaper too!

I don't know what you'd need good walking shoes for. The tube runs directly to Kew from any part of Kensington. Minimal walking involved.

It’s a half mile walk from Kew Gardens station on the District an Mildmay lines. Loads of options for quick routes to Richmond on trains from Clapham Junction, Waterloo etc.

The environment of Kew Gardens station is very charming with cafes and restaurants.

Richmond would be a good option to stay - it’s v quick to KG on the Mildmay

Are you planning anything else, the Richmond PI is near the tube which is one stop to Kew Gardens.

There's a signposted pedestrian route, looks about 10 minutes from Kew to the National Archives.

Yes, it's a very short walk, on normal pavements all the way.

Quick note: Kew Gardens is in the middle of moving all the plants from the large glasshouse in order to fully close and restore it. So it may not be looking its best atm.

I visited there on Monday. All the other hothouses are looking great; it’s definitely worth a visit even with some of the plants missing from that glasshouse.
