Peak District

Is there anyone here local to the Peak District? I was hoping to drive there and do a short hike on a couple of weeks but am aware of the wildfires…. Would it be OK- I’m guessing it’s a large area so not everywhere is affected? I haven’t booked an air bnb or decided an area yet but not too far as driving from London.

I'm Sheffield based. The only fire I'm aware of is Tintwistle. Avoid that area and you'll be fine.

The Peak District is a very large area and the fires are on the northern edge. It’s business as usual elsewhere. Where are you thinking of going? Places like Bakewell/Dovedale/Ashbourne in the south & mid peaks will be totally fine if you’d rather err on the side of caution.

I was thinking south area and I’m only going for one day. I’m actually going to stay at a friends and travel up from Cambridge so somewhere I can drive in a day, stay one night, do a hike and come home

The fires seem to be on north west edge near Glossop. Lots of the Peak District left to enjoy and there was actually some rain last night too. Have fun.

It is but gets incredibly busy

As above the fire is on tintwistle Moor so just avoid that area and there is plenty of the peak district and slightly outside the peaks to explore. Peak district kids is a useful website to check out walks with good directions and variety of complexity even if you dont have kids
Please do be mindful of advice about litter, cigarettes and bbqs

The fires are right to the north of the Peak Park around Crowden and Tintwhistle.

But you do realise it’s about a 3 hour drive from Cambridge to eg: Ashbourne?

Why not just go for a hike closer to your friends house in cambridgeshire? There’s stunning countryside there or in Norfolk.

This sounds sensible and then plan a whole weekend or week exploring the beautiful peak district. There's plenty to do and more than a 6hr round trip for one hike
