Inverness?

I’m looking at short weekend breaks in UK I can Easy Jet to.

I’ve never been to Inverness. Suggestions of what to and where to stay with my 13yo DS?

For early September before schools go back.

I wouldn't tbh, Inverness itself is mostly just a service town for the wider Highlands. It's soulless and quite depressed. Definitely not much for a 13yr old that you wouldn't get in any other town centre.

The Highlands themselves are beautiful and lots to do if you are outdoorsy but you'd really need a car to get around and it depends on what kind of teen you have whether it would be engaging for them.

If you're going to go, then leaky's bookshop if worth a visit, a walk along the river and botanic gardens, the Victorian market for food and possibly a boat trip on loch Ness or one of the dolphin spotting tours.

Hotels, Kingsmills if you're wanting something more upmarket but traditional.The Marriott or B&B hotel if you want more modern.

Agreed with @NameChangeScot! Inverness is a great base for nature/wildlife type trips, especially up into the Black Isle. If you're not "outdoorsy" people, it might not be your cup of tea; and you'd need a hire car.

I frequently travel round Scotland with my sons sport and Inverness is absolutely not somewhere I'd choose to go for a weekend. Wev had to stay over a few times and it's absolutely boring and minimal to do with teen boys. My son is also 13.

My teens loved Inverness, but we are outdoorsy.

Thanks all. I’ll save it for when DH can come along as we tend to do outdoorsy stuff as three. With just myself and DS I was after more city stuff.

Go to somewhere near Inverness. Black Isle, Nairn if you want scenery. Aviemore is not the best looking town but loads to do with kids and great scenery. Or go west coast Arran, Mull, Skye

Aberdeen, Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow are all far better 'city' experiences and places to visit for a weekend IMO.

I do like Inverness and I do not think it is as bleak as others suggest. But the city is not packed with museums etc.
That said, there are things to do. A walk out to the botanic gardens and Eden Court theatre along the river (good food and shows at Eden Court). A bus out to Black Isle, Culloden battlefield, out to Fortrose on the bus and walk to Channonry Point to see the dolphins, hire a (e)bike and cycle to Dores and into the great glen, etc is all worth doing while not needing a car. With a car, the beaches and hills are there for exploring....including places like Glen Affric that is less than an hours (beautiful) drive to one of the most stunning glens in Scotland full of waterfalls, lochs, deep woods and high mountains. Stunning.
