Is Wales or Scotland a sensible choice for a coastal break end of July?

UK break next week not too far from the coast. We were thinking of going to Wales or Scotland next week but with all these wild fires thinking whether or not it will be worth it? Please can anyone living in these areas provide honest advice or can people think of else for a holiday as couple.

I'd still consider both. The wildfires have been very localised, so I wouldn't write off either Wales or Scotland entirely because of them. I'd just keep an eye on the local news and be prepared to avoid any affected areas if conditions change. If your main aim is a coastal break, there are plenty of lovely spots that are unlikely to be impacted. Personally, I'd probably choose the west coast of Scotland if you're happy to travel a bit further, but parts of the Welsh coast are just as lovely for a few days away.

I’m currently in Tenby, it’s glorious. Nice coastal breeze so not too hot.

Have a look at the Ship Inn at Elie

I second the suggestion of the area around Anstruther. It’s very pretty, has nice restaurants, a harbour and a lovely beach. Elie, just down the road has a country park and a fabulous beach. You tend not to get midges on the east coast.

Tenby would be too far for the OP, @HoldMyWine .

The Lancashire and Sefton coasts are my nearest shores - parts are fine for a day out for us but I wouldn’t really recommend anywhere along them for a summer holiday. There’s some good birdwatching areas but high summer isn’t the best time of year for that.

There are lots of places not far - Llandudno Tourist Information Centre | VisitWales, Betws-y-Coed, Bodnant Garden, NT, Trefriw Woollen Mills, Gwydir Castle, Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, NT, ...

we were in the Conwy area last year - the walled town itself is nice, there’s the castle and a very interesting Elizabethan town house. Nice walk along the harbour and round the corner of the coast. Which is already more than most towns of its size. And. as you say, lots of other things nearby.
