Hello, i‘m in need of a little get away at half term and want to book an air bnb / hotel somewhere for a few nights. We live in Manchester and are open to a city or countryside break but with attractions or day trips nearby for our 3 children age 9, 14 and 16. Not London though.
I have no idea where to start looking, any inspiration would be greatly appreciated!

How about Edinburgh.
Lots of attractions to suit the ages of your DC.There’s the castle,Camera Obscura,Mary Kings Close,National museum of Scotland ( free entry),walk down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat. You can take a hop on / off open top tour bus. The centre of Edinburgh is very walkable. You could take a bus to Portobello and take a walk along the prom or have a coffee in one of several coffee shops.

Thanks, that’s a good idea actually - we took the kids when they were little but they won’t remember! Off to look at hotels…

Another vote for Edinburgh, so much to do!

It can be very expensive though.

Glasgow is another option and can be cheaper for accomodation.

The start of May half term is Edinburgh marathon festival weekend so it'll be expensive and very booked up. Aim for later that week and there should be more options. If you need accommodation with parking then that limits your options a bit!
Or York, North Wales, Lake District.....

We stayed in the Zip-world Hotel, North Wales and did the deep Mine tour. There are loads of activities for a mix of ages in a beautiful part of the county, and not too far away from Manchester.

Also, if you have never stayed in a Youth hostel, that is a different experience. We stayed at Grinton Lodge and went to the Forbidden Corner. It was a great weekend.
