It's DD's 16th next week. As a birthday treat my DM booked them a couple of nights in London and tickets to see Hadestown on Wednesday evening.

Unfortunately she can no longer, she's had emergency surgery and not able to make the trip. She has asked that I take her instead, which I have agreed to do, as she is so excited about going to the theatre. But I'm feeling really stressed about it. I'm not a confident traveller and my anxiety has increased (thank you menopause) I'm worried about getting around and being everywhere we need to be.

We are travelling by coach and arriving at London Victoria coach station. We need to make our way to Travelodge kings cross royal scot. Then on Wednesday, from the hotel to the Lyric theater.

Can anyone offer advice on the best way to get around, and also any ideas for Wednesday day for a bit of sightseeing before the show?

I hate feeling like this and would love to just relax and enjoy a couple of days away, but instead I'm just stressing about the logistics of it all 🙁

I miss the bead shop too!

There used to be a button shop in Marylebone, hope it’s still there. And VV Roulaux for ribbons.

If you need somewhere on Tuesday when you've checked in, Pizza Union is just a short walk from your hotel - cheap and cheerful pizza in a canteen setting. Then wander through Coal Drops Yard and maybe onto the canal. The Charles Dickens museum is really close to you too. Wear comfy footwear. Walk or jump on buses since the area you want to cover is quite small. Have a great time!

St chads place (think that’s the name) has a bar restaurant there, original bar was designed by architects.

Depending on how flush you are, the black cabbies will take you wherever you need to go and deliver you to the door

Not cheap though. Worth it for one trip.

This lovely place survives: https://www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/

This is the place I meant, your shop looks great too:-

They sourced old buttons for me on more than one occasion.

Thanks for the update, OP.

Perhaps down the line you can still do a trip with your DD. If so, I would also recommend Maison Assouline on Piccadilly - gorgeous editions to admire and there’s a very stylish cocktail bar on the ground floor (if she’s old enough by then!) or they do afternoon tea.

If you’re there on the 12th it is the London Landmarks half marathon- it will be crazy busy and lots of roads closed

What an uplifting update! So pleased your mum was feeling well enough to take your daughter - what a memorable trip for both and the best reason I can think of that you weren’t able to go (your mum recovering). You seem more confident now - hope you can plan a trip, three generations? ❤️

I would definitely feel more confident about planning a trip in the future. I am not spontaneous at all and a last minute change in plans (or request to go to London on short notice) sends me in to a panic

But armed with all this information, and the fact DD and DM had such a good time, I'm sure it's something we could arrange again.

DD adored Hadestown, absolutely loved it. But she had a shortlist of shows she wanted to see so would be more than happy if another trip was arranged.

DM is still waiting on results, but the past few days have definitely took her mind off things, and we will remain hopeful for some good news soon 🤞
