Booking.com “your child stays free” - but the price has gone up by £500?!

What am I missing here?

I need a double bed with room for a travel cot.

If I search for “two adults” the price of the hotels is coming in at around £650.

If I search for “two adults and one child,” giving the age of the baby, I get offered family rooms/beds for £1200+, with a banner saying “your child stays free.”

Err?

Is the solution simply to find some good options using the ‘two adults’ only option and then contact the hotels directly to enquire about adding a travel cot?!

Take your own travel cot.

Well yes, that’s what I’m going to do. But if I add a child to my booking, their ‘free’ place adds £500 onto the room?

Check on the hotels own website.
