find me Ye Olde Worlde!

Ive been given the task of finding a long weekend away in UK prob 4 days.I have baby brain and cant think of anywhere.

Last year i went to Stratford and loved it, flowers, narrowboats, morris dancers, shakespeare...it was proper olde worlde!!

I'd love to find somewhere similar, im 18 weeks pregnant so whilst still nibble on my feet im not up to rambling!! would love somewhere with places to see etc... London is out as i spend half my life there and York im not sure as ive been already so fancy somewhere new...

any ideas....please please help! its my only chance of a holiday!

wow responses already... ive opened another window to start looking, martianbishop...i come from peterborough and now live in leics so frequent rutland a lot as inbetween so not there, but that kind of feel. oh im excited now i can actually visualise places.

Have you thought about Edinburgh? Easy to get to, easy to get around. the old town is Medievalin origin, and the new town in Georgian. Art, museums, nice shops,good food, two castles a mile apart. Fabbo place to mootch about

If you are Leics I guess Stamford is far too mundane

Ludlow has wonderful restaurants

Malverns, esp. Ledbury and thence into Herefordshire is gorgeous - see Elgar's birthplace at Broadheath, lovely Eastnor Castle and Hampton Court Gardens...

Bath is also rather nice.

not masses to do if you are looking for 'culture' but the area is fantasic and there are lots of NT properties and ye olde tea shoppes in the area.

We had a fantastic holiday in his area last year

it isn't far from Lyme regis, which is also nice, but a little more 'touristified' IYSWIM

Ludlow or Bath. The former has not much outside the town itself if you are not up for hill-walking, and the latter has too many Americans, but other than that...

Worcestershire somewhere? Could be quite similar to Stratford in some ways - the 3 Choirs festival see here is in Worcester this year if you want "culture"

Malverns are lovely - we live outside Worcester, and the area is fab. Not too many tourists, plenty of places to go, good local food. Loads of festivals and events through the summer - Upton jazz festival looks fun

I'd have thought York would be really nice but full of tourists. My brother lives there and I love walking down The Shambles.
