Any body been though recently? Ryanair are saying get there 3 hours pre flight!
which means leaving Norfolk about 03:30 to get for 0830 flight.
I have valet parking and no bag to check in. I was hoping to leave here about 5 and give myself 2 hours…
sigh

We did it last week - also fellow Norfolk people! - the bag check in and parking were quick but security line was very long and slow. We left the three hours, and it did take longer than normal but we still had ample time the other side. Depends on the day I suppose and how risk averse you are…

bagelsandlox · 19/01/2026 07:40

2 hours is fine if you get a fast track security pass

Macaroni46 · 19/01/2026 07:51

Stansted security can be a nightmare and I’ve nearly missed flights on more than one occasion due to the slowness of the process and length of the queues. I’d definitely leave 3 hours. Better to have time to spare than to miss the flight. I actually try to avoid Stansted now due to how many times I’ve had issues with the parking and security there.

Stick to the security line to the right. It’s always the fastest and if the fast track queue is small they wave you through.

Pepperedpickles · 19/01/2026 08:35

I think it’s always been 3 hours. That isn’t a new thing. (Also live in Norfolk and often use Stansted).

Two hours is plenty

MegCleary · 19/01/2026 14:42

Thanks for the replies all, waves at the Norfolk mafia. Have paid £7 for fast track and will aim a bit earlier than the two hours.
haven’t seen the family since August, can’t miss it.

I’ve been through Stansted twice in a month and security is hideous. I would leave 3 hours.

Octavia64 · 19/01/2026 19:07

I flew out last Tuesday.

very quiet (to the point that staff were commenting!)

It’s really not.

MegCleary · 20/01/2026 13:37

so I woke at 04:15 and read these and kept out of bed!
left about 4:40 and got there about 06:15. Had paid for the fast track and the scanners broke. So we got scanned, bags taken elsewhere to scan. Scan failed had to be rescanned. And the queues for normal security looked fine.
chatting to man in queue and says impossible to predict queues and he works for Ryanair!
all in all fine had time for breakfast
thanks all

We missed a flight at Stansted last summer because even though we were at Ryan air check in before the desk opened and quite near the front of the queue it took so long to get to the front and then through security the flight had gone, half our plane were in the same boat. Go the night before and get a hotel.
