What places have you been to as an adult that you had never been to as a child?

Until the summer I turned 18 I had only ever been on holiday to one place, about 50 miles from home.
That summer I took a road trip to Scotland and my eyes were opened, I have rocked about in all countries and most counties of the UK since then.
even now, 40 years on and having travelled on all continents, I have a list as long as your arm of UK places I want to see.

I always wanted to go to the Jorvik Viking centre in York, I remember when I was at primary school seeing it on the big tv they wheeled into the hall. My mum and dad were not exactly museum people and we lived in London so that was never going to happen! I finally took my own daughters and it was so good! My daughters were 3 and 5 so had limited appreciation 😂

A slightly odd question to some of us who are fortunate enough to travel for work and in private life.
I have spent 52 years travelling the UK and beyond, and have travelled far more after turning 18 than I ever did before.
Countries wise as a child i was born India and visited Iran briefly. But as an adult over 20 countries (mainly for work), and many places within those countries.
Even within the UK there are much more specific towns or locations that I am visiting. However, this thread has made me think how much of the UK i have seen in my life, a lot more than most I suspect. If I look at my Google Timeline and photomap of the last decade, it looks like this:

What places have you been to as an adult that you had never been to as a child?

Well bearing in mind I had 18 years as a child and 47 so far as an adult, most of them!

I’m always astonished when we go to iconic landscape-y places in the UK that I didn’t go to as a child - Lake District, Devon coast, Scottish coast, Highlands etc - because I always think ‘Oh, that’s what Enid Blyton was talking about!’

So many landscapes that my little seaside town brain conjured up from the descriptions, there, just existing in real life. Blows my mind every time. DP doesn’t like being too hot so loves a UK holiday and it’s opened a whole new world up to me.
