Going to Whitby on holiday would be glad of any ideas of things to do, places to see and places to eat out. Thanks.

Haven't been for years but spent all my childhood hols there.

We used to love going up to the church on top of the hill next to the abbey and counting the steps. we would buy fudge from the sweet shops. For beaches we would go to sandsend and also walks and kite flying on the moors.

hope that helps.

might be completely different nowadays!

Ooooh! Whitby is one of our favourite places! Here is a list which is popular in our house ds 2.9 dd's of 15,13,11, grumpy and eccenntric dh (but I love him) and me:

fossil hunting on the south beach bit
fish and chips (Magpie take away) on the pier
trip on the old life boat
trip on the steam bus
walk on beach
swim at sandsend
playing in mud/sand at sandsend river bit
St Mary's Church (box pews and a trumpet in pulpit for Vicar's wife)
Abbey visitors centre is good too
Cakes from Boothams
Pottery cafe
Trip on steam railway (North York Moors Railway)
Old fashioned sweetshops with jars
Shepherds' Purse for coltsfoot rock and real liquorice stick and nice cheese for grown ups
Seeing the kippers being smoked (and buying them)
Having your picture taken in Argument yard
Great bookshop with bargains up an exciting spiral staircase

I could go on but I've probably bored you enough. Have a great trip!

Hi Seb, nice lido type pool up on the cliffs if weather's good and next door I think there's a little science museum with interactive stuff.
the museum and art gallery in pannett park if it's raining.
rockpooling at robin hoods bay
walking along the breakwater to and going up the lighthouse at the end.
big replica galleon to go on - ds loved it !
north york moors centre with walks and brill adventure playground
scarbrough castle too
good pub is at bottom of the steps up to abbey - in fact there are two next to each other but I believe both are ok. Have list of walks round whitby, ny moors and coast if you want to borrow.
