Toddlers on trains

I’m planning to take my 1 year old on a train from the north of England to northern France. The last time we did a 3 hour journey together she was 5 months old and just entering the wriggly stage, I ended up pacing up and down the aisle with her in a carrier as I couldn’t find a way to sit down safely with her. Wondering if anybody has any advice on how to travel safely on a train with a 1 year old and whether there are any booster type seats people have used successfully on trains?

If you're planning a fun train trip you're probably well aware of this website but just in case you're not, me and everyone i know who loves a train swears by the advice of the man in Seat 61. I just looked and he has a special page about travel with little ones, and I'm sure if you look up your specific route it will have more handy info.

I would suggest changing at Lille not Paris if that works with your destination, as in Paris you often have to take the metro whereas Lille is often a same station transfer.

Bon voyage!
