UK train travel over Easter

I‘m planning on flying from Basel to Heathrow in our spring holiday, with DH and 2 kids (8 and 5). Our school holidays are two weeks, starting at Easter.

We would have to take a train to Lowestoft as well. I really don’t remember how the trains are in UK- would travelling by train over the Easter weekend be a nightmare? Will the trains even run? It would be ideal to travel at Easter so DH uses less annual leave, but obviously we don’t want to get stranded or have a really bad journey.

There are often works at Easter but it’s not a total shutdown, so you’d need to check your actual line of route to see whether works are planned on the dates you wish to travel and how this affects the timings. Trains are a great way to get around the uk, especially to or from the south east.

The trains generally run but many train companies use the long weekend to do essential engineering or track work.
If this is the case they may run a rail replacement bus instead. You need to see which train company Lowestoft is on and look at their website. Planned engineering is often scheduled months in advance so it might say.
Good Friday and Easter Monday may run on the Saturday timetable so if the trains are running double check you are following the correct train times.
