Anyone know the easiest and cheapest way to get to Shetland? Travelling from Bristol.

Want to go to Bressay. Any time of year. Two adults and a teenager.

Maybe fly Easyjet from Bristol to Edinburgh, then fly Loganair from Edinburgh to Sumburgh? That looks to be the most feasible route to do in a single day.

There are Loganair flights from Bristol to Aberdeen, then Aberdeen to Sumburgh, but you'd need to split the journey into different days.

There's also Easyjet from Bristol to Glasgow, then Loganair from Glasgow to Sumburgh, but again the timings mean you'd need to do it over 2 days to get there.

Are you going to parkrun by any chance??
Flights aren't cheap but the only other option is the ferry and that would be a very long drive from Bristol! If you fly the airport is at the south end of the main island, then there's a bus into Lerwick and from there you get on the short ferry crossing to Bressay. Or you could hire a car which I'd advise if you want to explore further afield as the bus service is pretty awful.

Yes how did you guess lol?

It is a long way to go but just something I would love to do. Looking at flights as that seems the best way.

Thanks for help

It’s well worth the trip, so unique but allow some time to explore Shetland if you’re going all that way as the bulk of the cost is the flights. PM me if you want more info, I’m happy to recommend where we stayed.

The cheapest way will be bus to Aberdeen then take the overnight boat and not bothering with a cabin. That will take forever from Bristol though.

There is no cheap way to get here. Loganair are our only airline. Or you can get the 12-14 hour ferry from Aberdeen.

I was coming to say this we have family in Shetland and have used various options to travel and there is no 'cheap' way.

Thanks for replies 😄

It doesn't need to be 'cheap' as such, I was just after different options.

Thanks mumsnetters!

Or train from Bristol to London and then the sleeper train to Aberdeen, then ferry?
