Narrow boat holidays

DH and I are contemplating a narrow boat holiday next year, maybe just a long weekend then it's not a disaster if we don't like it, but definitely not more than a week. Has anyone got any experience and could recommend a good location/hire company?
We're both interested in history so happy to travel through towns with an industrial heritage but I'd like to see a bit of countryside too. We live in the North so I'm thinking somewhere in the North of England or the Midlands would be best. I don't mind doing a few locks - we've taken our sailing boat up to Scotland and then through the Caledonian Canal in the past so we've had some experience, and locks are after all an important feature of canals - but I don't fancy doing any massive flights as we're not as young as we once were!
If anyone has done this type of holiday and has any advice or recommendations I'd be very grateful.

I don't remember the boat hire company - they weren't great anyway - but me and my boyfriend got engaged during a rainy narrow boat holiday in Wales. We went over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct one day and I'll never forget it. It's stunning!

Pennine Cruisers at Sowerby Bridge, you could do the Rochdale, hard work but amazing countryside

It was over 40 years ago but just after our a levels i had a canal boat holiday with friends. We went in June, the weather was glorious and we just had the best time.
A canal boat holiday in southern France is on my bucket list .
