Whitby recommendations?

Hi!
Finally fulfilling a dream next month and going to Whitby (goth as heck, Dracula megafan) and I was wondering what YOU would recommend to do? I've wanted to go since I was a teenager so I'm very excited.

I'm not staying in Whitby itself as I didn't realise quite how expensive the hotels are there, so staying down the road in Scarborough instead.

Obviously there's lots of Dracula things to do and can be quite touristy, are there any hidden gems that tourists miss, I realise for a lot of things they're aimed at tourists entirely and very expensive.

I've managed to find a ghost walk with an older goth lady that sounds really good so will be doing that!

Thank you ❤️

Not gothy at all but Whitby is good for sea glass hunting. There’s a beach below the 199 steps where you can find loads and it’s lovely to walk up and down and listen to the sea.

I’d walk up the steps, have a walk around the church and graveyard at the top then head down to the beach to glass hunt.

Walk up the 199 steps, past the abbey and you'll find Whitby Brewery. It does great beer and pizza, and if the weather is Ok you can sit outside and enjoy a lovely view over to the abbey.

This place is a short drive out or Whitby, best to book foods fantastic

The Village of Sandsend has a nice beach too.

We were there last week, always go when we are up that way as the food is fantastic. They do takeaway too.

Jet Black Jewel cafe/bar on Skinner street might also appeal to your inner goth - quirky vibe and lots of folklore info including the Hand of Glory…

I'm sure you'll end up walking past it anyway, but The Whitby Bookshop is great. There's lots of good places to eat, a fish and chip shop with a fab view is The Fisherman's wife

Whitby museum, but check opening times before you go. Find the Hand of Glory it doesn't get much more goth than that.

The Esk Vaults pub is small and over 3 of 4 floors, does great Pizza and beer what more could you need?

Myself and my husband are voracious readers so will definitely be having a look, thank you!

If you go to the Brewery for pizza and beer then get a pint of Black Death Gothic Stout. Very fitting for a goth at 6.66% ABV!

Just mooch along the lanes and enjoy the atmosphere. The jewellers are fab and there's a little museum on Church Street below the abbey which has the most stunning showcase of jet.

Oh - layer up. It's freezing 🥶

Such a shame you just missed the Goth Weekend.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/11/2024 18:04

When I went to Whitby, I didn't notice a hide about of 'Goth' stuff. It's just a nice town.
