I know people here are saying not to stay in Wick but they recently got a new fantastic campsite that I stayed at recently (I’m a local). It’s a community one so all the money gets reinvested into the community.

Wick gets bad rap. The town definitely isn't scenic but it's got interesting things nearby and also does have a big Tesco, B and M, Argos, should you need anything harder to get in more remote locations.

Thanks for the advice so far

I have decided its probably best not to camp and instead have looked at hostels so will probably only go up the west coast and as far as Achmelvich - though I may cycle further north than this. There seems to be hostels at Glen Nevis, Torridon that look well situated to look around, and I will have driven up and back along part of the NC 500

If anyone knows of good guided walking tours in this area, let me know. Ive found a few online that look ok but recommendations are welcome.

Would like to walk Stac Pollaidh, and Ben More Coigach but also open to other walking tours in these areas

I stayed in Kinlochewe earlier this year (pre midge season) and it depends on what your interests are. I enjoy walking/hiking up mountains and I could give you a list of good walks if you are into that sort of thing. As for attractions:

Inverewe Gardens near Poolewe.
Some of the beaches along the west and north coast are stunning (assuming you get suitable weather), e.g. near Gairloch.
The Bealach Na Ba road.
The tiny road that runs from Drumrunie to Lochinver, followed by the B869 towards Kylesku.
Ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway. Good views of the summer isles and some of the Sutherland peaks and you may see some wildlife. For a passenger only it is quite cheap. When I used it there was a strong NEly wind driving a big swell between the Outer Hebrides and the mainland, and it was seasickness inducing if you didn't look outside to the horizon.
