Why does butlins holiday resorts let convicted sex offenders visit their parks on adult breaks I’m really concerned that they could leave devices in swimming pool changing rooms when families of young children stay Butlin’s are know real help here

Because you don’t have to declare your criminal record when you book a holiday…….it’s not just Butlins 🙄

poppyzbrite4 · 20/09/2024 13:32

Is this related to anything or are coachloads of predators visiting Butlins?

Wimwims · 20/09/2024 13:32

How would Butlins know they are convicted sex offenders?

YaCannyKickYaGrannyInTheShin · 20/09/2024 13:34

Ok well this is random 🙈

Or are you referring to a news story or something?

<< Clueless >>

Choosingmiddleschool · 20/09/2024 13:35

The same reasons as for premiere inn, TUI, easyjet, jet2, sainsbury and the local library.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/09/2024 13:36

Are they holding a sex offenders' weekend or something? If not, they're the same as any other similar business - no requirement for them to check the sex offenders' register before accepting a booking.

YaCannyKickYaGrannyInTheShin · 20/09/2024 13:38

I have no idea why I'm so invested in this! 🤣

But I've just Googled their T&Cs and they don't allow sex offenders to the best of their knowledge 😳

We don’t knowingly allow any guest to use or visit our resorts who: (i) has an unspent criminal conviction; (ii) has an entry on a criminal register (including the sex offenders’ register); (iii) has any record of any order indicating antisocial behaviour, violence, abuse, public disorder or criminal damage or any other form of antisocial behaviour; (iv) is a convicted sex offender, subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003; or (v) is subject to a Risk of Sexual Harm Order or Child Abduction Notice.

If you don’t disclose this information about yourself or any other member of your party, and it later becomes known to us, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and require that you, and the other members of your party, leave the resort, without refund.

It’s says they in terms and conditions

i’ve never been asked for my dbs cert number before booking any holiday

have you op?

now waiting for the drip that this sex offender is one of the guests in your own party visiting butlins

Butlinssexoffenders · 20/09/2024 13:43

I know of a sex offender who goes on theses adult breaks and when Butlin’s have been informed they still allow them to attend I just think it has real potential to end badly for families and butlins

See now I would've opened the thread with this statement 🙄

If you have a problem, the next time you know they've booked, send actual proof to Butlins.

Without that there's nothing they can do.

Edingril · 20/09/2024 13:46

Is it a question on their booking form?

There are no families as in children there.

How is it any different to adult only TUI holiday or Haven (do they do adult only)?

Choosingmiddleschool · 20/09/2024 13:47

I went once and I didn’t see this question.

YaCannyKickYaGrannyInTheShin · 20/09/2024 13:47

But why does it have 'potential to end badly for families and Butlins' anyway?

Do you have any idea how many non convicted sex offenders are wandering around in every single place you've ever visited?

Ponderingwindow · 20/09/2024 13:49

The law does not restrict the vacation habits of identified sex offenders beyond any travel restrictions they might be under. A business could face charges of discrimination if it unilaterally banned a class of people.

if you don’t think sex offenders belong at family friendly recreation sites, you need to campaign to change the laws, not try to shame businesses.

i doubt your campaign will be successful, but you could certainly try.

RitzyMcFee · 20/09/2024 13:50

There's sex offenders everywhere. At school pick up, at the cinema, in marks and Spencer's, at Dinosaur Mini Golf, at birthday parties.

Singleandproud · 20/09/2024 13:52

But someone could go to their local swimming pool and put a device etc it's not specific to Butlins and that's more risky as the person lives in the area

Why did you remove the "we don't knowingly allow" from the start of that?

Another posted quoted the full thing just before you

SonjaBarkerFinch · 20/09/2024 14:18

Potential guests would have to declare their criminal activity for Butlins to ‘let’ them visit.

kaos2 · 20/09/2024 14:25

There are no children on the adult weekends !

Yes that was weird wasn't it?

I can't work out the OP's agenda but they definitely have one.

ForKeenLimeOtter · 20/09/2024 14:28

Something like 30% of the adult population in the UK has a criminal conviction. There will be a lot of once dangerous criminals walking the streets and in all parts of everyday life. Including people that have seriously harmed and killed others.

There has to be an acceptance of this, as presumably if they're walking free they've been determined to pose a low risk. Otherwise no one would ever leave their house through fear.

CatchingBabies · 20/09/2024 14:29

I have never been asked about my criminal record when booking a holiday. So how would they even know?

Sex offenders are sadly everywhere, including Butlins, and probably there when children are there also as again how would Butlins know?

Considering how common it is for men to have a sexual interest in children you should always assume there is a sex offender nearby and manage supervising your children with this in mind.
