Why does butlins holiday resorts let convicted sex offenders visit their parks on adult breaks I’m really concerned that they could leave devices in swimming pool changing rooms when families of young children stay Butlin’s are know real help here

OP posts:
Shinydoor · 20/09/2024 14:32

My local one actually had a sex offender weekend away - solely for them. They even hired an ABBA tribute band to perform. But I heard they scoured the changing rooms for devices after so don’t worry

CatchingBabies · 20/09/2024 14:33

Here you go. A quarter of men in an anonymous survey admitted to a sexual interest in children. A QUARTER!

So anywhere you go, where they are at least 4 males, chances are there is a potential sex offender there.

Sex offenders can and do holiday all over the place, they shop in your local shops, they walk down your high street.

Why is Butlins of particular concern to you OP?

Nobodywouldknow · 20/09/2024 14:56

OP what do you mean that butlins know that he’s a sex offender? Who there knows? Did you inform them or something? Did you send proof of the conviction? Unless you are applying for a job where you need a DBS check, you can basically do anything at all as a sex offender, especially things like going on holiday.

Cornettoninja · 20/09/2024 15:04

Presuming they’re a convicted offender you’d be better off letting their local police force know and leave them to check that they’re not breaching any terms of their license. They’ll be on the sexual offender registry if they’ve been convicted of abusing underage victims.

more widely, it’s not up to butlins or any other holiday provider to perform background checks. Best to be on your guard from all predators, not just the ones who have been caught, and not lulled into a false sense of security because you’re in a family friendly environment.

Do you have any proof of this?

I think the newspapers and general public would have gone crazy if this had really happened.

OnAndOnAndonAgain · 20/09/2024 15:35

You are never too far away from a sex offender, they're like rats . You just don't know about it

Obviously it’s a joke. Of course they don’t have sex offender weekends at Butlins.

Yes that was weird wasn't it?

I can't work out the OP's agenda but they definitely have one.

Perhaps OP works for one of Butlins' competitors 😃

OP, is it that you randomly emailed someone from Butlins telling them John Smith is a sex offender, and expected that they would put him on some sort of watch list to ensure he never turns up? I can't quite understand what's going on but it would be good to get some more context.

Any proof of this?

Perpetrators of CSA fall into 2 categories. The ones we (or at least the authorities) know about and the much larger group comprising the ones we don't. The second group is much more dangerous, as they will be unconvicted, unmonitored and unsuspected.

Mari2003 · 20/09/2024 18:14

This can all be easily avoided by not going to Butlin’s.

@nutrosti You didn’t click the links to other studies showing very similar results did you. But you keep denying the issue while the rest of work to keep our children safe.

huh?

not believing 1/4 men have a sexual interest for children? no, i don’t believe that

and there were huge variations in the studies. One it quoted being 9%

Stressfordays · 20/09/2024 20:00

Well they don't DBS you when you book a holiday 🤷 I go on lots of them adult weekenders and tbh, I wouldn't take my kids there knowing what happens in those rooms anyway!

i’d love you to start a thread about why you go on them and what they’re like!!

Good music, good vibes and a chance to let my hair down fully with no kids around. It's that simple! They're a brilliant weekend for all ages. The ladies in the room next door to us last weekend were 71!

Vanillalattecandle · 20/09/2024 20:06

What a weird thread, unless not going away is a condition on the sex offender from probation then they aren't doing anything wrong, Butlins also are doing nothing wrong as they don't have the legal right to ask for people to be DBS cleared before visiting.
It's a wild idea to think they'd leave a camera in a changing room but they wouldn't need to go on an adult weekend to do this, if they wanted to they could do this anywhere at anytime.

soupfiend · 20/09/2024 20:08

Unless the sex offender is on the register referred to above (and not all are) then the disclaimer that Butlins issue isnt relevant to them

Which is why they may not have acted on OPs information

Or the person is not a sex offender.

SunQueen24 · 20/09/2024 20:10

poppyzbrite4 · 20/09/2024 13:32

Is this related to anything or are coachloads of predators visiting Butlins?

Ive heard it’s where they all go on day release, not coaches. The prison transport drops them off.

You can't imagine what a bunch of drunk over 18s do? 🤣 Butlins isn't known for being the cleanest so I wouldn't want my kids sleeping on those beds and touching sides where drugs have likely been on. Plus, I'd probably get horrific flash backs of my own drunken antics whilst watching the kiddy shows 🤣

Stressfordays · 20/09/2024 20:19

I got back from my last one on Monday and I still feel rough today 🤣 they're another world, in a good way. If you like a drink, dance and a laugh, you'll love a Butlins Weekender. People get snobby about it but its one of the friendliest places I've experienced and I've never seen any trouble or felt unsafe, even when walking around alone early hours of the morning.

itsallabitofamystery · 20/09/2024 20:19

I own a caravan down the road from a Butlins site, and on the main entrance it says "no sex offenders". There's no way they could police it, it's not like they walk round with a badge on them saying "I'm a peado".
