Staying here for a few days soon, in an Airbnb.

Any nice pubs or restaurants we could book and things to do locally?

We'll be visiting the Brontë Parsonage museum

Who is going?
The Steam Train is nice if it is running when you are there. Salts Mill is not far as well, maybe Hebden Bridge too. Howarth is small but very lovely

GreenSmithing · 08/09/2024 14:32

Howarth is a village. It's nice, but small. It has tea rooms but not much in the way of a restaurant scene as far as I recall. I agree Hebden Bridge and Saltaire have more to do on that front.

BG2015 · 08/09/2024 15:10

Just me and DP.

Happy to travel further afield.

Saltaire is great, has the Hockney museum in the mill, is a world heritage site model village and has lots of lovely pubs and restaurants.

Haworth still has the Apothercary shop I think? All old fashioned soaps and stuff and some lovely food pubs and Brontë stuff to do

rumred · 08/09/2024 15:13

Saltaire Wednesday to Sunday - the mill is open then. Great local shops and cafes, beautiful park, woods, river and local walks. The art gallery in Cartwright Hall a few miles down the road is excellent too.

It’s Haworth. 😀

Newtrix · 08/09/2024 15:38

We went for the day recently and had lunch at Haworth old Hall, really don't recommend, food was very disappointing. We loved mooching round, Cabinet of Curiosity was a fab shop and the old sweet shop was super cheap and nostalgic. If you have a car Hardcastle Craggs isn't far if you're into walking.

Ooo thanks for the walk suggestion.

Avoid Keighley town.

Ilkley and Skipton are lovely local towns.

Do you mind me asking where you stayed op and if you would recommend. Looking for October half term.

We stayed here. Only for 2 people though. It was lovely. Free parking and a walk up the hill to the Main Street.

Avoid the car-park owned by a lunatic! It is famous across the whole of West Yorks! Channel 4 even did a documentary - the Yorkshire Clamper!
The Old Post Office is nice for food, shuts about 8pm

LittleMy77 · 05/07/2025 18:36

Avoid Keighley centre, it's a shithole (spent some of my formative years there!) Local attractions that might be of interest;
East Riddlesden Hall (NT place) Cliffe Castle, the steam railway, Saltaire - a model town / village built in the 1800's by the local businessman, pretty sure its a world heritage site these days

MrsArcher23 · 05/07/2025 18:40

I spent a rainy afternoon in Haworth as a detour from Harrogate. Very pretty village. I was quite emotional in the parsonage, especially seeing Charlotte Brontë’s memorabilia.

Assssofspades · 05/07/2025 18:49

I can't recommend Pave for food and excellent wine (if that's your thing) enough, it really is lovely. Definitely worth booking though, it gets busy.

We ate at Pave, The Fleece Inn and visited the Parsonage museum. We also went into
Skipton and visited the castle. We had a really lovely 3 days there.
