I'm planning a week in September, 2 adults. Looking for daytime mooching, history, scenery and people watching. Evening walks to the pubs although locals not bars.

Any suggestions for towns/larger villages to start my search? Happy to do 2 locations over the week if places may not have enough for a week's visit. Prefer not to use the car during the stay this time.

What are your recommendations?

I'm biased because I live here but I live in Cheltenham and I love it. Beautiful town, loads of places to stay, interesting places to eat and drink and depending on when you're coming the literature festival/ science festival on so stuff going on in the evenings.
