UK weekend away

Next year DS will be sitting his GCSE's and as a little incentive I told him we would go away for a week after.

Looking into it now, I really don't think we are going to be able to afford it (I know it's a while away and a lot could happen, but it's unlikely)

I've started looking for a long weekend away closer to home, other than:

Plymouth for the firework championships in August and the standard Alton Towers etc can you give me some ideas.

It would be me DH, DS16 and DD6.

If you're going at the end of GCSEs then you can probably avoid the school holidays (so long as you're ok taking the younger one out of school), so it will be a lot cheaper. Did you intend to go abroad?

If you are considering Plymouth for the fireworks then you can combine the trip with all sorts of South West attractions and activities. Would he be interested in water sports like surfing, paddle boarding or kayaking? There's a place called Adrenaline Quarry not far from Plymouth which has a huge inflatable obstacle course and zip wires. Then there's Dartmoor or all the many beaches.

Where are you?
North Wales has loads to see and do and plenty of free stuff.
Liverpool is a great City Break.
Whitby and the surrounding area is nice too and great for Surfing if you fancy it?
