Leeds with a 10yo

I’m thinking of taking DS(10) for a day out in Leeds.

A friend says the armouries are great.

What else is there to do with a child who loves history, space and weapons?

If they’ve got any events or tours on at the Leeds Museum Discovery Centre, they’re great

There is tonnes to see at the armouries if he’s into that sort of thing - I’ve spent whole days there with one of my nephews.

Royal armouries and you can get the water taxi from there in to Leeds city centre. Then Leeds museum (not sure what exhibitions are on). There's also the thackray medical museum just outside Leeds city centre, 5mins by bus next to st.james hospital. And then further out is kirkstall abbey/abbey museum (20mins ish by bus from the centre).

Thank you @cherryassam . It looks like we’ll be spending a whole day at the armouries then 😁

When you arrive, make sure you check when the shows and combat demonstrations are. If it’s very busy then it’s worth getting there a little earlier than the stated time to make sure you’ve got a good view.

They also have an escape room there now, which your DS might like - it might need to be booked in advance though

whoami24601 · 11/05/2024 18:00

The armouries is definitely good enough to fill a whole day! Having done the escape room, I wouldn't bother tbh. It might suit a beginner but it's not the best - we were out within 15 minutes!

cherryassam · 11/05/2024 18:08

@whoami24601 good to know! My weapons mad nephew is now 17 so he just looked at me derisively when I suggested it to him. He still loves the demonstrations though

Tequilamockinbird · 11/05/2024 19:15

Definitely the armouries, but check it's definitely open on the date you want to go. I'm at a conference there in a couple of weeks which lasts 3 days and the centre is closed to visitors during this time.

MinnieMountain · 12/05/2024 08:09

Ohh. DS loves water taxis.

Thank you for the heads up @Tequilamockinbird .
