Looking at booking a cottage for a weekend away in East Devon near Axminster.
Could someone who knows the area give some advice for best things to see and do/ places to go for a family with dc (5 and 7yo).
TIA

The donkey sanctuary near Sidmouth is a great day out!

I just came back from East Devon today. Highly recommend a day trip to the donkey sanctuary in Sidmouth, it’s free entry (donations welcome) and the cafe has delicious food.
Exmouth is lovely, beach and play area. I used to live in Devon so not sure what other touristy things to recommend.

Oh the Trams are fun I think they are near Seaton.

A ride through the Devon countryside on the Seaton Tramway is good - especially with the views from the open top deck.

Thank you. We'd love some coastal scenery, beach walks with some contingency plans for bad weather.

Beer is lovely with some nice walks along the coastal path and a really pretty little stony beach with lots of fishing boats and things to look at. Not really somewhere for paddling, but we enjoyed it there with our boys.

Crealy and Devon Country life museum are great. The Donkey sanctuary is lovely too.

All of the above, plus
Wildwood at Escot - great for adventure play and lots more
Jacob's Ladder beach at Sidmouth (not the main town beach) - sandy at low tide with rockpools and has a little ice-cream/beach shop built into the cliff/up the smaller 'ladder'
Fossil hunting at Lyme Regis

Donkey sanctuary was lovely.

We also went to a farm / dairy that had a milkshake vending machine, it was a little hut outside and you choose your fresh milk and then put the flavouring in.

It was on our way from seaton to north Devon, I don't think too far and not worth making a special trip for but if you were passing worth doing!
