Looking for a reasonable priced hotel which has a spa and nice food probably in the midlands to celebrate a 50th - ideally not too far from a nice town in the event we need to look at some shops etc - any top tips?

I'd love to stay there but I'm not sure it fits the OP's brief of reasonably priced? I suppose it's relative though Wink

How about The 3 Horsehoes? You could wander around Leek if you wanted to go somewhere?

Spa hotels are not generally reasonably priced. we love Ragdale Hall but it costs as much as a long weekend in Barcelona. Would recommend the Lifehouse in Essex but it’s the wrong end of the country.

The one mentioned above in Buxton is incredible.

If you want somewhere with a pool and plenty of things around, have a look at The Edwardian, Manchester.
