Luxury Train Trip

Hello, has anyone done a 'luxury' train trip from the UK? I am looking to see if I can book something for a family members' birthday. Ideally I would like a 3 day trip to Switzerland in winter to see the snow and Alps etc. but those are pretty expensive so I'm wondering if a day trip in the UK is better.

Northern Belle seems to be a good choice, has anyone used this company? I couldn't work out the timings as they don't post the actual itinerary, just the departure stations so assume the train carries on and brings you back at the 'arrive' time.

We would ideally be departing from the north-west and would want a really nice old-fashioned-type trip with beautiful countryside.

Just looking to see if anyone has done a luxury train trip and if you think it was worth it?

Thanks! 🚂

I do the Northern Belle every year just before Christmas. We thoroughly enjoy it and it’s become a bit of a tradition. Beautiful carriages, white linen tablecloths and lovely china. The food is lovely and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It’s very relaxing as you’re sitting in comfortable armchairs, eating, drinking and watching the world go by. NB goes to a number of interesting places and it’s a bit pricey but worth it for a special day out.

Thank you @AppleDumplingWithCustard this is great to hear! A Xmas trip would be lovely. It does seem very expensive (especially the surplus to guarantee a table for 2) but if it's as good as it looks then like you say for a special day out it would be worth it I'm sure.
