Post New Year break location

We are landing a short break from 2nd to 5th Jan in the UK. We would like somewhere which allows for a little gentle sightseeing (short flat walks, scenic views, perhaps a heritage site or local event). A couple of years ago we went to Brixham and enjoyed a stroll along the pier and to the lighthouse, a visit to the cafe in the national park, and a drive to see the train of lights. So something similar but not too samey would be lovely. I have looked but that time of year is a bit of a dead zone so was hoping for local knowledge.

It needs to be within a 4 hour drive of London. We have already been to Bath, Stratford upon Avon, York, and Wales. Thank you for any suggestions!

Cambridge is nice for a short break. There are some lovely riverside walks and good national trust properties close by.

What, all of Wales? (Sorry, couldn’t resist).

Try Wells-Next-the-Sea in Norfolk. There’s Holkham Hall, seal spotting trips, Holkham beach is massive, picturesque creeks. And if you can afford it, Sunday lunch at Morston Hall.

Canterbury?

Thanks for the ideas. We have been to Cambridge and Canterbury as well but Wells Next the Sea sounds promising!

We have actually seen quite a lot of Wales. We've been to Cardiff, Swansea, Rhossili Bay, Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Anglesey, Llandudno, Builth Wells so a nice range, though there is always more to see and we will go again!

How about Beverley, in East Yorkshire? You could walk around the Westwood (common ground) and visit the minster, which is amazing. Beverley is a lovely little market town with loads of restaurants. It's also not far from the east coast, if you fancied a seaside walk.
