Whistle stop UK breaks

Wanting to take my lovely Mum away for a night or two in January. We are in S.Yorkshire, I’m happy to drive or catch a train. Where would you recommend for a two-night getaway that might appeal to arts, shopping and cafè/pub enthusiasts, please?

Liverpool.....wonderful galleries including The Walker and The Tate, crammed with pubs cafes & restaurants, lots of good shops, theatres. Easy to get to by train.
