Do You Think The New British Airways Female Cabin Crew Uniform Is Disappointing?

What do you all think of the new British Airways female cabin crew uniform? I think it is awful, too drab, and nowhere near as nice and smart as the Julien MacDonald uniform (hence my Username!)! I especially hate the jumpsuit and red slash on the skirt front.

I created a poll on LinkedIn, and the result echoes what I have just said: the Julien MacDonald uniform should be brought back.

Well it’s not a female uniform, is it? It’s purposely designed to work on male bodies, and to hell with women and their needs/wants.

CesareBorgia · 10/10/2023 18:22

I don't care what cabin crew look like, it wouldn't bother me if they wore jeans and t-shirts. Their uniform should prioritise their comfort.

This. Looks extremely tight and uncomfortable in the chest area. Does BA have a policy of not hiring above a cup size of B?

Blackbyrd · 10/10/2023 18:26

Looks cheap and restrictive to me

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 10/10/2023 18:27

They have fallen over themselves so hard to be "inclusive" they haven't noticed that they have created something that looks like something from an orphanage in the 1950s. It's hideous and just stupid to pander to what they think the public wants because nobody wants to see anyone in that, none of the 33 zillion genders could possibly like looking like that!

PosterBoy · 10/10/2023 18:28

The suits and boiler suits look cheap and nasty as well.

BA is obviously aiming for the lowbrow polyester market

Scrambledchickens · 10/10/2023 18:29

I know some BA crew and they absolutely hate it, it has been designed so anyone can wear it …………..

OnLockdown · 10/10/2023 18:31

I don't think a jumpsuit is practical for going to the toilet on an aeroplane.

Olika · 10/10/2023 18:33

Reminds me of something you would wear when working at a garage

For a woman

PurpleMonkeys · 10/10/2023 18:44

I dislike enforced uniforms in general really.

This one is particularly bland and ugly.

I'm sure there's some women, and possibly men, that looks fantastic wearing it, but I'd look like a long sock stuffed with custard so it's a no from me.

sleepyscientist · 10/10/2023 18:56

@GrumpyPanda I mean they do have a height and weight limit so near enough.

I don't mind it, the dress and suits are lovely. The jumpsuit just looks strange to me as it looks like a pair of trousers with the same colour shirt. Would have been better to have it as a white top in my opinion. Hopefully it being unisex and less glamours moves away from the imagine of cabin crew being glamour waitresses and nothing more.

Cheshiresun · 10/10/2023 18:59

Personally I don't like it. My favourite uniform for cabin crew is Singapore.

Good point.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 10/10/2023 19:03

It's designed for men, so, no, I don't like it for women.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/10/2023 19:11

Awful! Looks very cheap and uncomfortable. Unless you are a bloke a jumpsuit is very impractical in a plane toilet.

I quite liked the glamour.

This uniform is just pretending they fill it up with fuel and tinker with the engines in between flights.

From what I have heard I don't think the jumpsuit is an option for cabin crew.

Anyone currently in the know confirm/deny?

Well I'm overweight and five foot nothing with big norks and I sure as hell couldn't wear it.

This too.

notimagain · 10/10/2023 19:48

Ref my query/comment upthread having done a bit more research it looks like the jumpsuit for cabin crew was delayed initially but has now OK'd for use.

@PurpleMonkeys

"I dislike enforced uniforms in general really.".

Fair enough but for info the wearing of such by crew is usually a regulatory requirement - helps make obvious to the authorities such fire crews etc, who is crew in the event of an incident such as an evacuation.

ZolaBudd · 10/10/2023 19:48

I think your unnecessary use of capitals is more disappointing

Celibacyinthesticks · 10/10/2023 20:00

Looks like she’s about to service a boiler. Going against the current narrative I loved the old glamour of being an ‘Air Hostess’ back in the eighties, the suits, the jaunty hat, I remember when I was young and at the airport and watching all the cabin crew and pilots and I was in awe at how fabulous they looked.

Sexnotgender · 10/10/2023 20:01

Is that a jumpsuit? How fucking impractical.

lljkk · 10/10/2023 20:02

Gosh, it looks sensible practical & comfortable. I like it a lot.
