My brother is taking his wife to Edinburgh for 4 days in January for her 40th.

Can anyone advise a cool thing to do/ tickets/ a place to go that I can arrange for her (then) as a b'day present 🎁

Dinner at six by Nico or a pass to Sheraton one spa - wait until Black Friday as they will have special offers then.

The Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith. DH and I both enjoyed it. I liked it because of being able to see the rooms the family used, while DH liked seeing the engine room and staff quarters.

What sort of thing would they enjoy?

Not sure how much you're after spending, but any of the ghost walks (some of them are really scary) or tickets to Mary King's Close or a ticket on the Hop on Hop Off bus for the day/two days. Or tickets to the castle, if the air is clear the views can be stunning and the indoor rooms are really interesting.

Something I've marked down for us to try next time we're there and have a special occasion is afternoon tea on the Fingal, which is moored in Leith at the Alexandra dock. They have other options as well but I thought it was so quirky as an afternoon tea venue it really appealed. You do need to book in advance so you might need to collude with brother on times.

Edinburgh is an amazing city but probably wrap up warm in January, the mist from the North Sea can get into your very bones that time of year....
