Northumberland, Snowdonia, Lake District.

Ariela · 14/10/2023 22:10

I've pretty much been everywhere, have walked the coast, cycled, gone on my motorbike etc but missing some of the islands in particular Lundy, Scilly, Isle of Man are top on my list.

BeforetheFlood · 14/10/2023 22:16

Wells. Been to Bath lots of times and it's nice enough, but I wonder if Wells is similar but smaller and less touristy?

SmithfamilyRobinson · 14/10/2023 22:49

Lundy
Burgh Island (Devon, Agatha Christie's favourite hotel)
Scilly Isles
Whitby
Pembrokeshire
Cheddar Gorge/Glastonbury
Shetland
Orkney
Isle of Man
Belfast/Northern Ireland

I want to go to the tourist spots. I travel a lot for work and never go anywhere glamorous (for want of a better word). Bradford, Wisbech and Coventry but never to anywhere tourists might go.

I’d like to visit Scottish islands, Scilly Isles, the Norfolk Broads/Norwich. Ely.

I'm off to Skye in a couple if weeks, then will have completed your list!

MissCherryCakeyBun · 14/10/2023 23:07

@BeforetheFlood Wells is beautiful and the shopping is nice with a beautiful cathedral and the Bishops palace to visit too. It's not far from us and we live visiting

StoatofDisarray · 15/10/2023 06:35

@KingsCrossStPancras count me in then!

What's Northumberland like? I'm interested in visiting it!

I live near Northumberland and it's my absolute favourite place. There are lovely beaches, several amazing castles. Holy island, boat trips to see seals and puffins. The most amazing bookshop (barter books). It's just lovely.

Haroldandhilda · 15/10/2023 07:17

Stratford-upon-Avon sounds lovely

RoseMartha · 15/10/2023 07:19

Scotland. Particularly Highlands and Islands. Edinburgh
Some coastal parts of Wales
Yorkshire
Lake District
Cotswolds
London
Chester

I live on the South Coast and usually go to the West Country.

Just back from Lancaster which was bloody gorgeous. Would like to explore Lancs more. And Newcastle, Scotland (not Edi/Gla - been there).

Doing uni visits w DC and also went to Sheffield which struck me as a lovely area too.

Icequeen01 · 15/10/2023 07:30

I'm 62 and have never been to Wales! We are rectifying this next week with 3 days in a cute AirBNB in Porthmadog. DH booked it as it's near Portmerrion which I said I would like to see.

Baffled1989 · 15/10/2023 07:44

@Seashor thet can be a pain but it’s rare and dependant where you go. It’s mostly too cold for midges (not mozzies) anyway

Ooh, sounds lovely! Definitely moving it up to to the top of my list for next year, thank you! (I was wondering if anyone would say don't bother going, there's nothing to see! 😂)

Roystonv · 15/10/2023 09:20

Kent too. We are in Cumbria and it is a long drive with the scary M 25 to negotiate 😀. We are planning the trip atm.

It is. We holidayed there most years when the kids were little and loved all the little villages in the surrounding areas.
The only downside was that there tended to be a lot of kids from these "language schools" in the town in the height of summer and we found a lot of them rude, like ten of them sitting round a table in a coffee shop with one milkshake and generally barging their way everywhere.

lol we live in Kent, just back from a trip to Lancaster. DH and I shared the driving - Birmingham surrounds where all the motorways converge and have lanes merging from the wrong side and tolls and stuff was hideous in the rain and by far the worst bit - on the way back I bagsied the M25 section as it’s the easiest 😂

Which bits of Kent do you like the look of? It’s a big county. Well, for the SE, not compared to Yorkshire.

Cowlover89 · 15/10/2023 11:06

Cornwall. Dorset. Devon.

AFieldGuideToTrees · 15/10/2023 11:17

The M25 is easy, if prone to congestion in places.

Given the choice between that and the M6/M60/M62 etc. navigation, I'd take the M25 every time.

Go at the right time of day and the M25 is a dream. 🙂

The Llynn peninsula is on my bucket list.
I’ve driven past Hadrian’s wall and not stopped too many times.
Durham would be a good city break.
And I’ve forgotten the town with the Writers’ Festival.

Basically I’ll go anywhere because for me the planning is as much fun as the event!

We have just returned from a week on the Llyn peninsular- absolutely beautiful.
I would like to spend more time in the Lake district, have only been there for a weekend about 25 years ago. Ds3 at Uni in Lancaster, so that's a good excuse to go to the lakes too !
