We are going up to Center Parcs Whinfell for October Half Term. We are going with a group of friends with their kids to celebrate a big milestone birthday of one of the mums. We have dds 9 and 12.

As a family we have never been to the lakes and we would like to stay a night at least before or after the CP stay to get a bit of a Lakes experience within 30 mins of Whinfell but not sure where to go?

Can anyone advise where to go and any accommodation?

Burn How in Windermere. Easy with family

I’d go to Keswick which is probably just about within 30min drive of CP. it’s a typical Lake District market town just a short walk to the shore of Derentwater. If you’re driving up from the south then you could drive through the Lake District and stay in Windermere or Ambleside but they’re a bit further from CP and you’d be driving off the motorway for longer.

Thanks so much @Mumaway and @NotFastButFurious

@Mumaway did you mean here: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g190820-d215597-Reviews-The_Burn_How_Garden_Hotel-Bowness_on_Windermere_Lake_District_Cumbria_England.html

@NotFastButFurious will Google Keswick now!

Keswick is a good shout and a good base and they have a newish Premier Inn if that appeals.

Depending on budget, availability and numbers I would thoroughly recommend staying in a Rowley Property. They are lovely and very well kitted out. They have a few cottages and also Halls.
https://www.therowleyestates.com/stay/cottage/ I have stayed in three of the above and would thoroughly recommend.

The Lingholme Estates also have some cottages https://thelingholmestate.co.uk/ which I haven’t stayed in but they look nice.

Or the Quiet site has some Hobbit Holes https://thequietsite.co.uk/accommodation/glamping-burrows/ which may appeal I haven’t stayed in these either but I know someone who has and its close to Ullswater.

Or if you wanted something completely different and a bit further away and away from it all you could stay in a cottage near Wastwater https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wastwater+lake+district&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

Please avoid Cumbria or Cumbrian Properties like the plague.

Luxury holiday cottages for smaller groups in Cumbria and The Lake District, children and dogs always welcome.

I can vouch for the Quiet Site - stayed there about 6 weeks ago. It’s lovely, they have a bar and a little kitchen that does pizza and bacon sandwiches. we were only in a basic pod but it was a great site.

And I’ve said it on here before but Keswick has an amazing chippy - the Keswickian.
