30th September - train strikes

We have an open return train ticket which we planned to use to go from Manchester Airport to Southport on 30th September. This is now a driver strike day.

Are all trains likely to be cancelled or will it mean delays? Anyone have any ideas of our other options? (We won't have a car so driving is out)

Yes, all trains run by Northern will be cancelled on that day.

Thanks for confirming.

No problem. Transport for Wales services usually run (they’re not in dispute), you could get to Newton-le Willows or Warrington if anyone could collect you from there? They run an hourly service from Manchester Airport, they are usually extremely busy on strike days.

We've booked a taxi for the return. It's been a stressful trip to book anyway, in an area we don't know well, so decided to just get a taxi and it's sorted.

Thanks for your help.
