Mini-break with DS (15)

So, DH has decided to book a week away with his mates next year over May half term. I'm not that bothered really. It's a sporting event so not really his fault that's when the dates fell.

I thought it would be nice for just DS and me to go away somewhere instead.

I don't want to go abroad as that looks a bit too much of a fuck you to DH (which I really don't mean) and that's something we'd rather do as a family.

DS is very sporty but also really likes shopping. I like the theatre and art galleries but willing to forsake those.

Any ideas? I thought maybe Edinburgh?

Obviously you might be too close for it to be considered for a break, but I do think London is hard to beat with teens - especially those who like shopping.

Manchester has good shopping as well as the National Football Museum plus the football stadiums and the cricket.

I feel like we've done London a few times. Manchester is a good shout.

Oxford is great for a short break. My teens really enjoyed our trip there. We based ourselves in a hotel within easy reach of Oxford and the Cotswolds and did a bit of both.

North Wales? Walking in Snowdonia, and there is an amazing zip line!! We stayed in a spa-type hotel that had a pool and restaurant so relaxed after a long day walking, we then had a night in Liverpool which was great!

@Torganer that sounds lovely. Definitely an option.

Oxford also an option but more of a day trip for us as only an hour away.

Liverpool is great for a mini break - loads of threads about what to see and do there on here. It's my teen DSs favourite city.

Belfast

You could do Manchester and Liverpool if you were wanting a longer break - a couple nights in each sort of thing

Liverpool, loads to see and do, it even has a few good beaches and a short drive to North Wakes with even more stuff

Top Liverpool top is the waterspouts centre near the Albert Dock, they do a dock speed boat trip, nice gentle potter to see the sites from the water then if you are up for it they will take you to part of the dock with no speed limit, its fantastic.

Where do I begin? There is so much to see and do in Liverpool. Have a look at our page …
