Flying with formula

I'll be travelling shortly with my formula fed twins and although weaned they do need their milk before bed. I've just realised I cannot take a flask of hot water and as they like it warm can I ask how you have travelled from Heathrow with formula?

I was thinking either to make a hot milk bottle before we leave for the airport and let it cool or take ready made milk in hope I can find some hot water in the airport ?

Any tips welcome.

Many thanks

You could probably get hot water from a cafe or coffee shop after security.

TwinMama2322 · 10/09/2023 07:27

Thank you I did think that although all the cafes around here don't provide hot water for safety reasons and so I thought what if they do the same. Last thing I want is two screaming hungry bubbas on a flight without their bottle I'll just turn home 🤣🤭

I took premixed bottles through with me and it was fine

Of course you can easily get hot water in the airport - any restaurant or cafe will have it! How soon into your journey do you plan on feeding them? If you make a fresh bottle up using boiling water just before boarding then it’ll be drinkable for between 45 minutes (when it’ll have cooled to drinking temp) and 2 hours (when you should discard).

I would have them take ready made for a short while leading up to the travel, gradually give them it cooler until they are able to have it at room temp.

You can just order a tea and ask them to leave the bag on the side (because you don’t like it too strong!) if they’re being funny about giving you hot water. Ready made is also good though, will they take that room temp? Or you could stand it in that mug of ‘tea’ to take the edge off?

@TropicalTrama that's brilliant thank you! X

Sorry I know this isn’t what you asked but I would take spare pre-made formula cartons.
I set off for a four hour flight once from Birmingham and landed back at Gatwick 2 hours later for medical emergency. Finally reached destination after 7 hours and had not got off the plane. Was a tough journey and thank goodness I had plenty spare.

@Youonlygetonelife19 oh blimey that must have been tough I didn't even think about that! I'll pack extra thank you!
