Festive weekend with kids

We are in the North East and are looking for a festive weekend away. Any suggestions please?

We often go to Edinburgh for the Christmas markets/lights, fairground and also do an attraction such as the zoo, camera obscura, science museum etc.

Is there anywhere else that would be good for this type of thing? Within a 3-4 hour drive? Must have things for kids to do aged 11 and 4

Thanks in advance!

Thanks. What is there to do in York for kids please? And is there rides at the market or just the stalls? Thanks

I agree with York. The Winter Wonderland which has rides, ice skating etc…. https://www.yorkshireswinterwonderland.com/ There’s lots to do in York with kids, such as Jorvik and the Chocolate Story. Shambles look magical at Christmas and we normally go to a Christmas service in the Minster.

York’s favourite festive event, Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland, is planning to return for the Christmas 2021 season including The Ice Factor ice rink and funfair

York is lovely and lots of museums. The Castle museum put decorations up and it's lovely!

There is also the black Country museum and beamish that decorate for Christmas and are great 👍🏻

Took my kids to butlins last year just before Christmas. I tolerated it, they bloody loved it. They were 11 and want to go back again this year.

If you were driving then you could stay on the outskirts of Manchester and do Dunham Massey Christmas lights (assuming it’s on this year), the Xmas market in Manchester is huge, there’s Manchester museum, the museum of science and industry. There’s a premier inn by the trafford centre which wouldn’t normally be my choice of location but would work for this scenario and offer activities indoors in the evenings too.

Thanks, hadn’t thought of Manchester will have a look
