Eating out Alnwick?

Have booked a house in Alnwick for a week in October, we are in Scotland so it is the week before the English school holidays. DH, me, 15 year old son, my recently widowed mum, and perhaps older teenagers coming for the weekend then heading back to uni.

When self-catering we usually get a Gousto/Hello Fresh box as it works out easier than supermarket shopping and nicer than ready meals. But we do like the odd Sunday lunch at the pub, or a good takeaway. Any recommendations? We have been to Alnwick before when staying in Warkworth or Amble and DH is sure there's a great butcher for pies, but we didn't eat there or even stop for a coffee (apart from in Barter Books which is a day out by itself).

Any recommendations from locals greatly appreciated.

The white swan has the reclaimed first class lounge from the SS Olympic which is beautiful to dine in!

The anglers arms towards rothbury is lovely if you go for a day out to Cragside!

There is a fantastic Chinese restaurant by the walls, called, I think, Yan's. We've eaten in and had a takeaway, although. I am not sure if the takeaway was just a Covid thing.

There's a great butcher shop for pies in Alnmouth.

Your DH might be talking about Turnbull's Northumbrian Pie Shop/Deli? There’s also Turnbull's Northumbrian Food Hall which is brilliant for stocking up with self catering bits and pieces. They have a super butcher’s counter too.

We ate in a really nice restaurant one night called Adam and Eve. We stayed at the Plough and the food there was good too. If you like books, I also highly recommend the cafe and ice cream parlour at Barter Books.

Particularly glad to hear the Plough is good as the house we are in is almost directly opposite. Will be nice to explore the town properly rather than just passing through on the way to/from somewhere.

I was just about to recommend Barter Books! We like it too!

We also liked the fish shack in amble. It’s a good fish restaurant/eatery. Not overly fancy but good food.

This place is amazing. It doesn’t look much from the outside but the food is fabulous and it’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It gets busy so you would need to book for half term.
