Manchester restaurant recommendations

Hi
please can anyone recommend a restaurant near Manchester cathedral that’s good but isn’t too pricey? Stopping over for a night for the gin and rum festival.
Thanks!

Refuge Mcr.. This place is not too pricey and the food is lovely. Like Tapas style plates.. The building is amazing also as a bonus so worth a visit if you're in city. Its about 10 mins from Cathedral walking so not far

Restaurant and Bar in Manchester

Globally influenced small plates and sharing dishes.

Mowgli in the Corn Exchange is nice - Indian Street Food

If proximity to the Cathedral is your main priority have a look at the Corn Exchange - lots of choice there, but IIRC they're all chains.

TNQ is great and has a prix fixee before 17.30. I love VIet Shack on Ancoats - it's walk-ins only but the wait's never been that long for a table for four.

Dishoom on Bridge St. Fabulous Indian restaurant.

Gymmum82 · 29/08/2023 21:44

Mowgli for sure

Pasta Factory in shudehill. Terrible name, the best Italian food in Manchester. Its sister restaurant is Noi Quattro if you prefer pizza. Both on the cusp of the Northern Quarter for drinks around the meal too.

Agree with posters saying Mowgli, but Dishoom is better!

doodleygirl · 29/08/2023 21:48

Dishoom is gorgeous

cherryassam · 29/08/2023 21:55

I wish I could go to Dishoom more easily as people have recommended it several times.

I am lactose intolerant and have a nut allergy as well as another couple of quite complex allergies and they basically said I might be able to have the Roti and rice and that was it - none of the main dishes at all. When I asked if they could do swaps so I could eat something else they said no.

Mowgli there are several things I can eat and they’re always happy to make any swaps.

Salvis in the corn exchange is lovely

Candleabra · 29/08/2023 22:02

Some of these restaurants aren’t very near the cathedral. If proximity is the main criteria then corn exchange would be ideal (chains - but nice ones). Evuna in the northern quarter (Thomas street) is excellent, about 10 mins walk.

AmytheDancingBrick · 29/08/2023 22:08

I bit further away but I’d head for the Indian Tiffin Room, my second choice would be Dishoom (worth having breakfast there if you’re staying over).

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/08/2023 22:17

If you're really stuck, I know it's a chain, but Vapiano's is a stone's throw away (Corn Exchange).

Mowgli is in the corn exchange
Dishoom is a ten minute walk too
The Northern Quarter ones are near as well.

Mowgli looks really nice, super close too.

Sam's Chop House | Menus (tomschophouse.com)
(bit more of a walk from Cathedral to Cross Street)
Cook Haus - Alberts Schloss
(Peter Street. If that's too far there's always the Bierkeller at the Printworks).

Yes! I was trying to remember the name but Pasta Factory is so good, been there a couple of times when visiting the city.

Thanks all! I’ll have a nosey and book somewhere
