Cambridge area

I'm meeting a friend for a day in a couple of weeks and would love a suggestion from anyone who lives in the Cambridge area for something lovely to do.

For our last meet up we stayed in Cambridge and went to Kettles Yard, did a cheesy punting trip with Pimms, pottered round the University gardens, to give an idea of what we'd enjoy.

That area is a half way point for us and I'd happily spend the day in Cambridge again but would also quite like to go somewhere different.

Thanks!

Afternoon tea at the Orchard Tea Rooms in Grantchester.
Potter around the Fitzwilliam Museum then tea and cakes at Fitzbillies.

Anglesey Abbey or Wicken Fen

Lots of amazing things to do in or near Cambridge.

The Botanic Gardens are lovely, just on the edge of town. You could then walk from there to Grantchester for lunch or afternoon tea.

The Fitzwilliam Museum is really good.

Audley End House & Gardens, around 15 miles south.

I've been to the Fitzwilliam (feels a bit too much like a school trip - we're both teachers) and Anglesey Abbey.

The botanic gardens and Grantchester sounds promising - parking? Walking distance? My friend has a hip problem which means she can't do too much walking...I realise that makes us sound like pensioners - we are only in our forties!

On a nice day, the Tea Rooms are delightful but can get very busy - I'm not sure you can book or not. There is parking in Grantchester close to it.
The Botanic Gardens are a bit of a walk from the town centre; you can park nearby along Trumpington Road, however.

It's about 2 miles from the Botanic Gardens to Grantchester but you can get a bus (no 18 from the Catholic Church on Hills Road)

Jesus Green Lido is a gorgeous open air pool - really stunning. Definitely worth considering if you’re the outdoor pool types.

Wimpole Estate

Lido (if it actually gets warm) and botanic gardens both sound lovely. We used to meet at Wimpole with our dcs when they were little and go to the farm - now they are all teenagers so we tend to meet on our own.
