London/Windsor accommodation suggestions

I am planning a weekend for the 3 of us including DS who is 15.

Plan I think is to fly to LHR on a Thursday - this is October time. Friday get to Thorpe Park, Saturday a day in central London (could swap Friday and Saturday around if there are any train strikes etc) and Sunday possibly Windsor and the Castle.

What I cant work is out where to base ourselves. I think I am aiming towards being in Windsor and using taxis for Thorpe Park and the train into central london. Does that sound alright or would you go elsewhere? I also did think about staying at a Heathrow hotel too but Windsor maybe better for an air b and b or connecting hotel rooms.

I’ll think about accomodation but just wanted to mention that you can get the train from Windsor and Eton Riverside to Staines and then there’s the 950 bus from Staines station straight to Thorpe Park.

It’s the same train line that runs to Waterloo.

If you don’t want to stay in Windsor, you could look along that line (Waterloo-Windsor), E.g. Feltham which links to Heathrow via the RailAir bus, Twickenham, Richmond etc.

Depends on your budget. Staines has a premier inn or Thames Lodge hotel by the river. The 950 bus is a 10 minute to Thorpe park, 20 minute train from Staines to Windsor and Eton riverside and it's 40 minutes from Staines to Waterloo. Staines isn't the most picturesque town but the river is nice, with lots of restaurants.

We did legolanx when children were little and stayed at Novotel Heathrow which has a swimming pool and parking incl. Will give you lots of options and easy tube into London.

Travelodge right by Windsor train station. Really reasonable and v clean.
It was fun staying so close to the center of Windsor.
Lots of places to eat too.

Stay in Windsor. It's a nice base and easy to get to Thorpe park or London. There's a travellodge right in the centre and a holiday Inn express a short walk away (5mins). Be careful to look at maps when booking though as a lot of the Slough hotels claim to be in Windsor, and they most definitely are not! (Looking at you, 'Copthorne Windsor'). There are obviously other options too, fancy hotels or airbnbs, or pubs with rooms.
